Supporting participants across Penrith and surrounding Western Sydney communities

Disability support available in Penrith

Waymaker Pathways provides personalised one-to-one support to NDIS participants living in Penrith and the surrounding area. We're an independent disability support provider working across Western Sydney.

Support goes where it's useful, not where it's convenient for us. Depending on your goals, that might be:

We don't run a centre or office in Penrith. Support comes to you rather than the other way around.

Arranging support for a participant in the Penrith area.

A word on the area, because it shapes what's realistic. Penrith sits at the western edge of Sydney and is one of the faster-growing parts of the metro area, with new estates continuing to spring up alongside older, established suburbs.

We're a small team, so availability depends on where in the Penrith area you're located and how our current workers' schedules line up with yours. We'll tell you honestly on the first call rather than stringing you along.

Active and outdoor community access in Penrith

Community access is planned around what you actually want to do, not a set program everyone joins. Penrith has a strong outdoor and active streak, and a lot of participants build that into their support.

What's distinctive about Penrith, practically speaking. The Nepean River and the surrounding parkland give the area a genuinely outdoor character that denser suburbs don't have — walking paths, open space and recreation facilities that a lot of participants enjoy using regularly. The town centre itself is fairly compact, so a single outing can often combine shops, the library and a train connection.

These are categories of activity, not programs we run. We have no partnerships or affiliations with any Penrith venue, centre, council facility or community organisation.

Local travel and transport planning

Penrith is a broad and still-growing area, and newer estates on its edges can sit a fair distance from the town centre and each other. That's worth planning for, not discovering after support starts.

Before support begins, it's worth agreeing on the practical details — with us or with any provider:

Whether travel time, kilometres or transport can be claimed depends on your plan, goals, budget and circumstances. Nothing is automatically funded — confirm with your plan manager, support coordinator or the NDIA. See our self-managed and plan-managed NDIS support page for more.

We're not a medical or patient transport service.

Support for teenagers and young adults after school

Leaving school changes a young person's week in a way that's easy to underestimate. For teenagers and young adults in Penrith, support might include:

On transport specifically. For a young person in a spread-out area, learning to get around independently often matters more than it would somewhere compact — it can be the difference between a week built around home and one that includes the gym, a friend's place or a part-time job.

It's also a genuinely bigger step for some than others. Some young people work towards travel independence over many months; others decide it isn't their priority right now, and that's a legitimate choice too. Support should follow the person, not a template.

Life skills and everyday independence

Life-skills support means practising real tasks in real settings — your kitchen, your local shops, your route to the station.

Depending on your goals, this might include cooking and meal preparation, shopping and comparing prices, managing money day to day, planning a weekly routine, organising your space, or building confidence with tasks you already do.

In a region where getting somewhere is often step one, transport and planning skills tend to sit alongside the household ones. Working out how to reach the shops or the gym can be as much a part of the goal as the task itself.

The emphasis is on doing things with you rather than for you, and stepping back as confidence grows.

Getting to appointments and activities

Support can include planning the trip, travelling with you, being present at an appointment if you'd like that, and helping sort out what happens next.

Support workers don't provide medical advice, diagnose anything, or make decisions on your behalf. They're there so you feel prepared and heard.

Transport arrangements are discussed and agreed before support starts. Read more about appointment and activity support.

How support is personalised

Support planning may consider your:

None of this is fixed. Preferences change, and support should change with them.

We can't guarantee particular outcomes — progress belongs to the person — but we'll work practically towards what matters to you.

How we match support workers in Penrith

When matching a support worker, we may consider:

Being upfront about the trade-off. In a growing, spread-out area, the worker with the best personality fit might live some distance away; the closest worker might not share your interests. We'd rather talk that through with you than pretend it's never a factor.

Where that trade-off lands is partly your call. Some people prioritise personality fit and accept a little less flexibility on timing. Others want a nearby worker above all else. Tell us which matters more to you.

We can't promise a perfect match or guarantee a particular worker's ongoing availability — people take leave and circumstances change. If a match isn't right, tell us and we'll adjust.

Penrith and nearby areas we service

Waymaker may also support participants in nearby Penrith-area suburbs, depending on worker availability, travel requirements, scheduling and support needs. These include:

Cranebrook, Kingswood, Jamisontown, South Penrith, Cambridge Park, Werrington, St Marys, Emu Plains and Glenmore Park.

Availability genuinely varies by suburb rather than being uniform across the area, given the distances involved. If you're nearby but not listed, ask — it's worth checking rather than assuming. Contact Waymaker Pathways and we'll give you a straight answer.

We also provide disability support in Blacktown and disability support in Fairfield.

Funding and eligibility

Self-managed

Yes — we can support you. Self-managed participants generally have the widest choice of providers.

Plan-managed

Yes — we can support you. Your plan manager processes our invoices.

⚠️

NDIA-managed

Generally not for supports paid through NDIA-managed funding, which typically requires registered providers.

Waymaker Pathways is an independent, unregistered disability support provider. NDIA-managed participants generally need registered providers for supports paid through NDIA-managed funding.

Funding availability depends on your plan, goals, support categories, budget and circumstances. We can't determine that for you — your plan manager, support coordinator or the NDIA is the right place to confirm anything uncertain.

See our self-managed and plan-managed NDIS support page for a fuller explanation.

How getting started works

  1. Call or submit an enquiry.
  2. We discuss your suburb, goals, interests and support requirements. Whereabouts in the Penrith area you are matters, because it affects who can realistically support you and how often.
  3. We confirm your funding management type and whether we have availability in your area.
  4. We discuss suitable days, times, travel and worker preferences.
  5. You review the relevant service documentation.
  6. Support begins once arrangements are agreed.

On timing: how soon support can start depends on worker availability in your specific suburb, not just Penrith generally. We'll give you a realistic answer on the first call.

You can start a support conversation whenever you're ready.
