Accessibility statement
Many of the people this site is for have disability. Accessibility is part of the product, not a compliance afterthought - and we would rather tell you what is not done yet than claim it is perfect.
What we are aiming for
We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That is the standard the site is designed and tested against.
What is built in
- Semantic HTML with a single, ordered heading structure on every page.
- A skip-to-content link, and full keyboard operation with a visible focus outline that is never removed.
- Text and interface colours that meet contrast requirements. The bright brand blue is used for graphics only, because it does not carry enough contrast for text.
- Meaning is never carried by colour alone - the Scorecard states every result in words as well as showing a bar.
- Visible labels on every form control, errors announced and linked from an error summary, and your answers preserved when something fails.
- Touch targets at least 48px, and a layout that works from 320px wide without horizontal scrolling.
- Reduced-motion support: animation and smooth scrolling are switched off when your device asks for that.
- No autoplaying media, no carousels, and no timed content. The Scorecard never times out.
The Scorecard specifically
- One question per screen, as standard radio buttons inside a labelled group.
- Deliberately no auto-advance, because it breaks arrow-key selection for keyboard and screen reader users.
- Progress announced in words, and focus moved to the new question each time.
- Back is always available, and going back never clears an answer.
- No sliders, no drag-and-drop, no time limits.
Known limitations
- Testing to date is automated plus keyboard and screen-reader checks. A full audit with assistive technology users has not been completed.
- Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts; self-hosting is planned to reduce load time on slow connections.
- Alternative formats of this content (Easy Read, translated) are not yet available.
