Self-managed or plan-managed: what is the difference?

Self-managed

  • You pay the provider, then claim the money from the NDIS.
  • You keep the records and receipts.
  • You can choose registered or unregistered providers.
  • Good if you like to be in control and are happy to do some paperwork.

Plan-managed

  • A plan manager pays the provider for you.
  • The plan manager keeps track of the money and sends you statements.
  • You can choose registered or unregistered providers.
  • Good if you want choice without the paperwork.

Can we change?

Often, yes. You can ask the NDIA about changing how the plan is managed. Ask your Support Coordinator or call the NDIS on 1800 800 110.

Whether a support can be paid for from a plan depends on that plan. If you are not sure, call us and we will talk it through.
