Support for you, as a parent and carer

Free help for carers

Carer Gateway is a free Australian Government service for carers. It offers counselling, coaching, help to plan a break, and support groups.

Call Carer Gateway on 1800 422 737 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm), or visit carergateway.gov.au.

Small things that help

  • Hand back one small task to your young adult. It gives them practice and gives you time.
  • Write down everything you organise in a week. It helps you see what others could share.
  • Talk to other parents who understand.
  • Book something for yourself and keep it in the diary.

Talk to other parents

Talking with people who understand really helps. Carer Gateway can connect you with carer support groups, in person or online.

In an emergency, call 000. If you need to talk to someone right now, call Lifeline on 13 11 14, any time.
